BBC recruits a Senior Digital Journalist

BBC hiring Senior Digital Journalist, Afrique.

As part of the one of the biggest broadcasters in the world, BBC Afrique serves audiences across Francophone Africa via radio, online and social media from our regional hub in Dakar, Senegal.  Our output is varied with a strong emphasis on regional and international current affairs.

From covering breaking news, sport, arts, business, features and challenging decision makers to discussing the issues that affect the daily lives of Africans, our daily output is delivered across a range of platforms.

We are looking for a Senior Digital Journalist to join our team in Dakar.  This is a continuing contract (local terms and conditions apply).

Role Responsibility

You will drive the commissioning and creation of high-quality, digital-first content for the web site and other platforms.  You will report, write, adapt and edit stories for and about Francophone Africa while ensuring all content adheres to BBC editorial policy through rigorous fact-checking and content subbing.  You will be skilled at both developing unique story ideas and optimizing content for maximum reach and impact.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience as a digital journalist at a senior level in news, both in originating ideas and creating high-performing material, and in commissioning and editing the work of others for online platforms.  Fluency in French and English is essential.  You will demonstrate knowledge of content management systems, SEO and audience analytics, as well as creative ideas to enrich the web site’s agenda and reach underserved audiences like women and young people.  Excellent editorial judgment and a desire to report news and current affairs in a fair and unbiased way for a Francophone African audience are important.
