Job Introduction
BBC Afrique is part of the British Broadcasting Corporation, the world’s largest public broadcaster.  In Africa, the BBC reaches a weekly audience of more than 90 million people on Radio, TV, Digital, Mobile and Social Media.  We currently broadcast to Africa in English, Hausa, French, Somali, Swahili, Kinyarwanda/Kirundi, Kiswahili and Arabic.
BBC Afrique produces a wide range of radio and digital content with an emphasis on regional and international current affairs.  We help our audience better understand their world so they can take control of their future and live to the fullest.
Role Responsibility
We are looking for two multimedia journalists to join our team in Dakar.
  • You will originate, gather, produce and present news and features content for and about francophone Africa while adhering to the BBC’s rigorous editorial standards.
  • You will primarily work across radio output, though you can expect to contribute to our digital output as well.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Professional experience as a radio journalist.  We are looking for dynamic and engaging on-air presentation, strong interview skills and multimedia production savvy, as well as experience with live news output
  • A track record of producing engaging and impactful content for radio, online and/or social media
  • Creative story ideas and innovative treatments to make news  and engage underserved audiences, like women and young people
  • Demonstrable editorial judgement and a desire to report news and current affairs in a fair and unbiased way for a Francophone African audience.
  • French as first or equivalent language, as well as the ability to write and present on air to a high standard in French.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (written and spoken) and translate pieces from English to French and vice versa
Package Description
  • Contract: two x continuing contracts (local terms and conditions apply)
  • Any offer of employment is conditional upon you having the right to work in Senegal
