BBC hiring Digital Journalist.
Job Introduction
As part of the one of the biggest broadcasters in the world, BBC Afrique serves audiences across Francophone Africa via radio, online and social media from our regional hub in Dakar, Senegal. Our output is varied with a strong emphasis on regional and international current affairs.
From covering breaking news, sport, arts, business, features and challenging decision makers to discussing the issues that affect the daily lives of Africans, our daily output is delivered across a range of platforms.
We are looking for an experienced Digital Journalist to join our team in Dakar. This is a continuing contract (local terms and conditions apply).
Role Responsibility
Based in our Dakar office, you will be part a busy journalistic team. Your role will include pitching, writing, adapting and creating material swiftly and accurately for the BBC Afrique website and social media platforms. You will ensure that all content adheres to the BBC’s rigorous editorial standards. You will have your finger on the pulse of news, digital communities and social media trends in West and Central Africa. You will be skilled at finding and creating unique, shareable stories with a fast turnaround.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will have a journalistic background with exposure to digital journalism. Fluency in French and English, to a broadcast-standard level, is essential. You will have a track record of producing engaging and impactful online content in a news media environment. The ability to create story ideas for original text and video content to reach new audiences, like women and young people, is important. You will have demonstrable knowledge of content management systems, SEO and audience analytics and engagement. A broad understanding of how to use social media to find and enhance stories and story delivery, coupled with excellent editorial judgment and a desire to report news and current affairs in a fair and unbiased way for a Francophone African audience.
