United Nations recruits an Intern – Public Information

The United Nations is seeking an Intern – Public Information.

The Department of Global Communications/Strategic Communication Division internship is for an initial period of two months with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the department and the availability of the candidate. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. This internship is located in the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Dakar, within the Information Centers Service (ICS), Strategic Communications Division (SCD), Department of Global Communications (DGC).

UN Internship description

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background; the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in monitoring the media for news stories of interest to the UNIC;
  • Assist in promoting ongoing communications campaigns and support its action of the UNIC
  • Contribute with creative ideas to reach and engage different audiences;
  • Support the design of communication media for different platforms media
  • Support the updating of designs for promotional products
  • Support in the development of various information materials, including publication covers, presentation templates,pamphlets, info graphics and social media visuals
  • Provide assistance in taking photos, filming, video production and maintaining the photo library
  • Provide assistance with shooting and editing videos and slideshows, if necessary;

Internship requirements

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Program, the following conditions must be met:

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • (a) be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
  • (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;

Be computer literate in standard software applications; i.e suite ADOBE, Photoshop, Illustrator, In design, After Effect, Premiere

Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in French is required for the internship. Knowledge of English is desirable.
