The role

The MHPSS Technical Advisor (MHPSS TA) ECHO PP is to use in-depth contextual understanding of the Sahel region and more specifically of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, technical expertise, and relationship building skills to provide a critical link between the Save the Children’s global and country level technical work, strengthening our technical support at country level. The purpose of the Sahel MHPSS TA is to build a cohesive, well-coordinated and high quality response in ECHO multi country program in order to provide a holistic and integrated approach to addressing the MHPSS needs of children and families affected by conflict and crisis in the Sahel. The role supports regional advocacy and influencing. The role will provide capacity building and technical oversight to ensure that MHPSS approaches and practices are included in the ECHO PP planning and implementation. The role supports the design and implementation of monitoring and evaluation systems to demonstrate impact, while sharing learning across country offices, and ensuring quality of our programmes. In the event of deployment of the RIRE component the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

Qualifications

Masters degree in the field of mental health, such as psychology, psychotherapy or other relevant area.

Experience and Skills

  • At least 5 years’ experience of working in MHPSS area in emergency settings, including child trauma, resilience & recovery, child development, work with parents & caregivers, and with communities.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience in using key tools and approaches, including the IASC Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergencies.
  • Significant experience working in emergency response, protracted crises or fragile state contexts
  • Demonstrated program design, monitoring and evaluation skills, including designing pathways to sustainable impact at scale.
  • Able to generate and use data and evidence to innovate, deliver, learn and share what works and what doesn’t work for children
  • Significant experience in training, capacity building, and mentoring
  • Experience of promoting quality and impact through at least one cross-cutting are: gender equality and inclusion, adaptive and safer programming.
  • Fluent in English and French writing skills.

Contract length: 01 Year

Location: the position can be based in one of the following countries: Senegal/ Mali/ Burkina Faso/ Niger
