GGGI is hiring an Associate Sanitation
The Associate will be responsible for providing technical support and coordination of Sanitation Project in Senegal and specifically in the Thies region. The postholder will be support implementation of sanitation activities planned in the Country program and ensure timely delivery of the outputs.
Purpose
GGGI Senegal Country Program is implementing sanitation program in several cities with a focus on the valorization of by-products in to order to create value, mitigate climate impact of sanitation services, attract climate finance and promote private investment.
Reporting to the Sanitation Officer the Associate, Sanitation will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Review project activities, develops activity plans and timelines;
- Apply basic technical skills to acquire relevant information/knowledge from a variety of sources which are often difficult to access, in support of delivery of a good quality output;
- Monitor projects sanitation outputs implementation through site visits, identifying operational issues and solutions, and other operational functions as relevant;
- Provide administrative & technical input to support project output delivery, for example compiling research case studies and other illustrative materials, preparing business cases on valorization or recycling options & best practices;
Engagement
Works closely with the national sanitation institution regional office and municipal counterparts to build cooperative relationships and establish GGGI as an effective partner;
- Understands project methodologies and can provide a wide range of contributions in support of delivery of activities of the project sanitation output;
- Identifies issues and risks that will affect the delivery of the project and reports to the Sanitation Officer with suggested solutions;
- Supports innovative opportunities for the project key stakeholders ‘engagement in the Sanitation value chain to achieve green city development strategy goals;
- Supports city-level communications and behavioral communication campaigns for the project.
Delivery
- Organize his/her work to ensure that deliverables are provided in a timely manner to support subsequent work and consistent with the annual workplan and budget;
- Monitor and reports on project and workstream activities to ensure efficiency and consistency with established work plans to support project management;
- Collect data and contribute to maintains a project filing system online (using tools such as OneDrive) and safeguard standards of reporting/documentary quality according to GGGI and donor’s procedures;
- Consolidate financial documentation for the project and ensures accuracy of project financial reporting;
- Assist with development of training materials, and logistics of local training sessions, and participating in national or local workshops as needed;
- Provide data to assess delivery issues and works with local stakeholders & delivery partners to build common understanding and coordination on project activities;
- Prepare draft of communications materials (media releases, news brief, press book, etc.);
- Support the design of all strategic, methodological, and technical documents to be produced as part of the Sanitation component of Senegal Country program, including the drafting of ToRs for the activities and studies to be carried out;
- Participate in project monitoring and evaluation missions, including final evaluation;
Requirements
Qualifications
- An advanced university degree in Sanitary Engineering, Waste management, Environmental Sciences, Environment management, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering or Community Development preferably with specialization in an area pertaining to Sanitation (Undergraduate degree coupled with relevant substantial experience may be considered in lieu of advanced university degree)
- Minimum of 5 years of professional work experience in waste management system development and the Sanitation sector,
- Proven track record in international development project management including participatory planning, report writing and financial management,
- Proven track record and excellent knowledge of Sanitation standards,
- Proven track record and excellent knowledge of valorization options of sanitation byproducts and fecal sludge management services,
- Familiarity with Green Growth and Senegal context with solid experiences dealing with government counterparts is an asset,
- Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills,
- Good command of spoken and written French and English. Fluency in the local language is preferred.
