Position Description

The Applications Engineer is responsible for supporting a wide variety of customerquotation requests across Flowserve’s portfolio of pumps. This role is involved with all customer facing activities related tothe order acquisition process including proposal development, specification andscope review, pricing analysis, and coordination with multiple internal andexternal stakeholders. It also includes accountability for a clean orderhand-off to operations. The Applications Engineer is also expected to be capable of makingtechnical decisions as appropriate in coordination with Engineering resources.

Position Requirements

  • Proactively cultivate and maintain a high level of communication with Sales, Operations, and other functional stakeholders in order to provide a high quality of customer service.
  • Responsibility to proactively communicate proposal details and gain alignment from applicable sales engineers and plant managers in order to ensure full transparency and accuracy for ultimate request fulfilment.
  • Timely preparation of high quality and complex proposals within limitations dictated by the customer or manager using designated workload management tools and processes, while analyzing productivity.
  • Demonstrate a firm and instructional understanding of pump/seal applications and types, a clear understanding of pump affinity laws and how these relate to pumps, seals and systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and project management mindset.
  • Manage and monitor the proposal throughout the entire bid cycle including updating and maintaining designated quote management system, while analyzing performance to maximize hit-rate and responsiveness.
  • Lead all coordination efforts on applicable quotes while ensuring close collaboration and communication throughout the bid cycle. Participate in strategy discussions with sales and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with operations, supply chain, and other functions to ensure that proper pricing is provided to customers, while maximizing profitability.
  • Minimize business risks by identifying areas commercial concern and mitigate accordingly.
  • Ensure clean order hand-offs occur on successful proposals, and minimize errors which could deteriorate margins.

Preferences

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) preferably in mechanical engineering, 2+ years relevant industry experience or demonstrated capability preferred.
  • Strong technical and commercial acumen, with cross-functional experience a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, along with the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and process oriented mindset with experienced mechanical aptitude.
  • Demonstrate a fundamentalunderstanding of pump applications and types, a clear understanding of pump affinity laws and how these relate to pumps, seals and systems.
  • Continuous improvement mindset and high degree of comfort with quoting tools and related technologies.
  • Fluently in English & French. Any other language skill is appreciated.
  • Some limited travel may be required when training phase is completed.
  • During training phase which will be in a number of European locations longer term travel should be expected
