The problem: In 2017, nearly 60% of adults in sub-Saharan Africa had no bank account. That’s for good reason—the fees are too high, the closest branch can be miles away, and nobody takes cards. Without access to financial institutions, people are forced to keep their savings under the mattress. Small business owners rely on lenders who charge extortionate rates. Parents spend hours waiting in line to pay school fees in cash.

How we’re solving it: We’re building financial services to work as they should: no account fees, instantly available and accepted everywhere. In places where electricity, water and roads don’t always function, we’re creating financial infrastructure that « just works. » In fall 2017, we launched a mobile app in Senegal for cash deposit, withdrawal, and peer-to-peer and business payments; our goal is to make Africa the first cashless continent. How you’ll help us achieve it

At Wave, we are currently recruiting for a professional and reliable Dispatcher to schedule and allocate motorcycles and vehicles to move people and goods. In this position, you will be in charge of :

  • Scheduling transportation
  • Handling transport-related problems
  • Being the liaison between different teams by maintaining communication to ensure activities are going according to schedule
  • Reporting on fuel usage, maintenance and status of cars to improve planning and management of vehicle fleet
  • Monitoring and ensuring vehicle safety

To excel in this position, all candidates should be able to multi-task in sometimes high pressure conditions with little supervision. In addition to being an excellent communicator, the ideal candidate will also demonstrate superb organizational and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assigns motor vehicles and drivers to move goods or passengers: Compiles list of available vehicles.
  • Ensure that all drivers have valid driver’s license.
  • Ensure that all vehicles and motorcycles have required registration, inspection and insurance stickers.
  • Assigns vehicles according to factors, such as length and purpose of trip, freight or passenger requirements, and preference of user.
  • Issues keys, record sheets, and credentials to drivers.
  • Records time of departure, destination, cargo, and expected time of return.
  • Takes care of vehicles that require maintenance and inspection.
  • Directs activities of drivers.
  • Maintain record of mileage, fuel used, repairs made, and other expenses, including building systems for recording this information.
  • Ensure that vehicles receive maintenance servicing in time.
  • May establish service or delivery routes.
  • May issue equipment to drivers, such as handtrucks, dollies, and blankets.
  • May assign helpers to drivers.

Key details

  • Location: You’ll work from our office in Dakar, with occasional travel to field locations.
  • You must have work authorization in Senegal.
  • This is a permanent position.

Requirements

  • Fluent in English – this role will interact regularly with non-French/non-Wolof speakers.
  • Speak both French and Wolof fluently.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office with proven experience in data entry.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
