Job Description

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Head of Port Activities for an International Mining Company, you would be based in Senegal.

The Company

Our client is an international mining company with operations in Africa and in Europe.

The Role

Reporting into the Director of Rail & Port, you will be responsible for ensuring the production of delivery (bulk and containers) to internal and external customers in accordance with safety and environmental standards and port regulations. You will be based on the Port Facility in Senegal and be required to travel occasionally to local mine sites.

Responsibilities

  • Organise and manage the port area in its internal and external activities
  • Implement port facilities operations and maintenance program
  • Ensure deployment of security and environmental policy across the department
  • Lead export documentation and port relationships (shipping lines, payment conference and shipping agents).
  • Ensure reliability and improvement of facility maintenance processes
  • Build and maintain relationships with key department heads, stakeholders, port authorities
  • Responsible For managing team of 25-30 Agents
  • Conduct interviews and support on boarding process

The Requirements

Formal tertiary qualification preferably in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Port

  • A minimum of 7 years related experience including Port & Logistics
  • Proven experience in Port Activity Management position with demonstrable value adds
  • Ability to recognise opportunities and to implement processes to achieve reduction costs
  • Understanding of ERP/MRP essential
  • Knowledge of Contract law and Port Regulations
  • Good knowledge of supplier or third-party management software
  • Excellent Written and Oral Communication Skills
  • Strong leadership & negotiation capabilities
  • Good Financial/ Budget Analysis Skills
  • Excellent Computer literacy skills – MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Advanced documentation skills with high attention to detail
  • Professional proficiency in French and English (Essential)
  • Mining or heavy industry experience preferred
  • Multi-cultural environment experience and International exposure a plus
