PATH Iis hiring a Creative Designer.

Job Description

PATH is a global organization that works to accelerate health equity by bringing together public institutions, businesses, social enterprises, and investors to solve the world’s most pressing health challenges. With expertise in science, health, finance, technology, advocacy, and dozens of other specialties, PATH develops and scales innovative solutions—including vaccines, drugs, devices, diagnostics, and approaches to strengthening health systems worldwide.

Living Labs accelerates the pace of health innovation by engaging end users, including individuals, healthcare workers, and decision-makers/influencers, in a co-creation process to rapidly design, test, and scale solutions to their long-standing challenges. By keeping users at the center of our work and working closely with our in-country partners, the Living Labs can accelerate access, utilization, and uptake of high impact health solutions.

For over 40 years PATH has worked with a diverse range of stakeholders to co-create appropriate and scalable innovations for health. PATH has a long history of conducting human-centered design (HCD) and user feedback across many projects, products, and geographies. Living Labs builds on these successes by embedding this expertise in our country offices, alongside the users. In line with its mission, PATH established the Living Labs initiative to advance health equity through innovation and partnerships.

In recent years, donors and partners have increasingly expressed their support for human-, or user-, centered design approaches. PATH has drawn on its experience as leaders in this space, consistently designing with, rather than for, our country partners. As global health organizations have modified their operations to base more projects and staff in program countries, PATH has recognized the need to also consolidate and build our design expertise in our countries of operation. To date, over 80% of Living Labs team members are based in PATH country offices, and have a diverse background, ranging from product engineers, behavioral experts, health systems design professionals, material designers, and market access specialists.

PATH is looking to hire a Creative Designer to join the Living Labs team in Senegal.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate the user experience (decision maker, health care worker, or individual) and devise creative solutions to solve their primary challenges. Encourage ideas and prioritize solutions. Put the user first – have deep empathy and understanding of what challenges they face and what inspires them.
  • Rapidly iterate, ideate, prototype, and test solutions or concepts to improve the specific topic or question at hand. If relevant, obtain user feedback on early product concepts or product prototypes for further refinement and decision-making.
  • Diligently, transparently, and in real-time document and share iterations; clearly communicate learnings to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate virtually with project leadership, local team, and other Living Labs country team members.
  • Evaluate and recommend the solutions or prototypes with the most potential for impact.
  • If needed, support linking qualitative insights with quantitative modeling (conducted by another team member).

Required Experience

  • A minimum of two years of experience in human-centered design, behavior change, user experience/feedback, and design thinking. Experience in the health sector a plus.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in product development, design thinking, or similar field is preferred.
  • Versatile and responsive working virtually with remote and global teams.
  • Comfortable with working openly and transparently, sharing works-in-progress, failures, successes, and lessons-learned.
  • Creative and curious.
  • Voracious learner.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task including working across multiple projects at the same time.
  • Passionate about addressing health issues in low-resource settings.
  • Receptive to and values open and honest feedback from colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Fearless about sharing ideas.
  • Proven effectiveness working in a team-based environment, but capable also of working independently and taking initiative.
