Organisational context
IIEP-UNESCO Dakar is the International Institute for Educational Planning’s (IIEP) Africa-based office located in Dakar, Senegal. IIEP is a UNESCO specialized institute with a mandate to strengthen Member States’ capacity to plan and manage their education systems. The IIEP-UNESCO Dakar, is renowned for its cutting edge educational sector analyses and supports African countries in developing realistic and credible education system development plans in support of the Education 2030 agenda, an essential part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Through a well-crafted and targeted capacity development approach, IIEP-UNESCO Dakar contributes to the creation of diagnostic analyses, sector plans and pedagogical tools. Overview of the functions of the post
Under the authority of the Head of IIEP-UNESCO Dakar Office, and the direct supervision of the Communications Program Manager, the incumbent will provide support to the activities of the Communication Team.
Institutional communication
  • Contribute to the development of communication strategies to promote the Institute’s activities;
  • Communicate on IIEP activities and events through internal and external communication channels, including the media and partners;
  • Improve the visibility of IIEP-UNESCO Dakar’s programmes and training offerings, particularly in the areas of education sector analysis and plans, quality management of education, vocational training, and gender equality;
  • Write and edit articles, editorials and speeches as needed;
  • Manage and propose improvements to the IIEP-UNESCO Dakar website: dakar.iiep.unesco.org
  • Contribute to the development of communication tools, including visual, photographic materials, multimedia presentations and videos;
  • Support the initiatives and projects of the Information Services Unit in IIEP Paris.
Publication 
  • Participate in the drafting and production of outreach publications of IIEP-UNESCO Dakar (thematic publications, magazine, illustrated reports);
  • Participate in the production of content to promote publications, including articles and videos;
  • Support production of publications by efficiently manage service providers, including editors, translators, graphic designers, printers, transporters, etc.;
  • Promote the Office’s publications through the Institute’s communication channels and ensure their dissemination to local authorities.

Required qualifications
Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Communication, Journalism or Social Sciences.
Work Experience
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant working experience in communication, preferably acquired in the education sector.
  • Experience working with development partners and preferably with African countries.
Skills and Competencies
  • Knowledge of communication strategies and techniques.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment.

Languages

Excellent knowledge of English and good knowledge of French.
Benefits and entitlements
UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc.

Selection and recruitment process
Evaluation of qualified applicants may include a written assessment exercise followed by a virtual competency-based oral interview.
​​​​​​Duration of contract: 1 year with possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.
