Teranga Gold Corporation hiring Senior Project Accountant.

This is a national position: 4 weeks on / 2 weeks off roster to our Sabodala mine site operations in Senegal.

  • The primary purpose of this position is to be the link between the Owners team (MCT) and SGO in performing day-to-day activities pertaining to project cost monitoring for Phase 1 & 2 of the Plant upgrade projects.
  • The role assists in raising cost awareness, ensures timely and accurate capital expenditure reporting and the annual budget process. The role provides day-to-day information to stakeholders, identifies, and develops additional reports to improve overall quality of reporting.

Key Responsibilities

This role is responsible for monitoring, updating, and analysing project cost, reporting on cost variances and supporting the schedule reviews. The position requires knowledge and awareness of both planning and cost control activities.

Project controls set-up

  • Design and set up tracking structure in Pronto ERP to align with WBS for project cost
  • Test the set up, verify reporting format and layout, and confirm data
  • Collaborate with all stakeholders regarding their reporting requirements and ensure that the reports desired are set up and functional
  • Set up schedule baselines related to all main activities regarding the capital cost control function
  • Establish recurrent meetings to keep stakeholders appraised on the status of project
  • Ensure project cost coding meet the requirements for both IFRS and SYSCOA OHADA (local accounting rules) and will support the capitalization of the project assets

Capital cost estimating

  • Review and control the definitive capital cost estimate plan (as developed by the different parties) relating both to the site and corporate costs to the definitive consolidate estimate
  • Implement the change management process and system for tracking scope changes
  • Keep track of all project changes against original capex estimate/budget
  • Forecast cash flow and cost to complete on a monthly basis

Periodic Status Reports

  • Confirm periodic status reporting requirements, content, format and issue date
  • Using trend/ PCN register, EPCM progress report, schedule and updated budget, commitment, forecast, payment and cost statements; review site progress in the monthly progress report
  • Prepare/review finance section of the monthly project report
  • Prepare/review finance section of the quarterly board presentation regarding the project

Cost Control

  • Produce and manage reporting of project codes expenses and provide analytical review, monitoring and guidance to various stakeholders
  • Continuous review of various capital costs and ensure appropriate allocation
  • Work with operations team members on month end closing work orders, accruals, various journals etc.
  • Provide the required documentation to facilitate capitalization of projects
  • Provide coaching and training to non-finance employees and stakeholders
  • Work closely with other finance functions like Tax, Accounts Payable, Treasury, Finance & Statutory etc.
  • Reconciliation of Project Ledger to specific general ledger accounts
  • Liaising with site cost controllers, construction team, and supply chain department to ensure costs are accurate
  • Responsible for communicating with internal staff, including Construction team, site team, corporate team to ensure the project is on budget
  • Provide timely audit support to internal and external auditors
  • Overall Cost estimations
  • Liaise with both the MCT and SGO project teams on any financial matter related to Plant Upgrades (Phases 1 & 2)
  • Liaise with the Finance team to ensure that Accounts always reflect the reality presented at site. Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities
  • Assist in the project budgeting process
  • Responsible to recommend and implement ways to improve the method of reporting costs to establish process efficiencies
  • Support project manager team in the implementation of all project procurement and logistics in accordance with policies and guidelines.
  • Ad-hoc duties as requested

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Degree in Business, Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum 5-8 years’ experience in finance as project accountant /capital cost controller
  • Experience with planning, budgeting and cost control
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite. Working knowledge in MS Project is helpful.
  • Previous Pronto or similar ERP experience required
  • Exceptional skills in analysing data
  • Strong documentation, organizational, planning and prioritization skills
  • Attention to detail, work well under pressure, change and ambiguity
  • Understanding of Project related processes, logistics and financial processes.
  • Displays integrity and is accountable for actions and statements
  • Effective Communicator with multilingual skills in French / English
  • Ability to work well within the team and autonomously
  • Results driven; strives for excellence in efficiency and performance
