Recruitment of Policy Officer

GNDR is seeking a Policy Officer to support the coordination of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction Stakeholder Engagement Mechanism. Applicants must be based in Delhi, Nairobi, or Dakar.

GNDR is a network of organisations across 127 countries striving to build resilience of disaster-prone communities. GNDR is the lead agency for a multi-stakeholder group convened under the aegis of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), the Stakeholder Engagement Mechanism. The Mechanism (abbreviated as UNDRR-SEM) was set up in 2018 to leverage the convening and advocacy powers of non-government stakeholders for the integration of disaster risk reduction into the broader 2030 Agenda.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Policy Officer to provide support and undertake policy research on specific issues; support knowledge management and dissemination of information on policy issues; and provide support to the UNDRR-SEM for the implementation of the 2020-2021 Action Plan, including administration and donor reporting.

All Candidates must have experience of:

  • Undertaking research on policy issues within the development or humanitarian sector;
  • Experience in advocacy, including the development of advocacy messaging and materials;
  • Experience of project administration and coordinating consortia.

Candidates should also have an understanding of and experience of working with the Sendai Framework for DRR and other post-2015 frameworks; and experience of working with donors and UN bodies. We are looking for candidates with strong analytical skills; the ability to think, plan, prioritise and organise in a clear and structured way; and the ability to to communicate complex issues clearly and passionately, both orally and in writing. Candidates must have excellent written and spoken fluency in English, with fluency in French or Spanish being desirable.

Candidates must have the legal right to live and work in either India, Kenya, or Senegal. Candidates from other countries will not be considered.

GNDR offers a competitive salary plus pension, specific to the country. Please note expatriate benefits are not offered.

The role is part-time, 3 days per week and the duration is 10 months starting on 1 March 2021, subject to confirmation of funding. Currently the role is home based, but will be located in a GNDR office during the latter part of the year.
