The Financial Institutions Group (FIG), one of IFC’s industry departments, supports projects in numerous financial sub sectors, partners with local financial institutions, develops domestic and regional equity and debt markets and introduces new financing instruments. The goal is to develop efficient financial systems that will increase financial inclusion and fuel economic growth in client countries and enhance IFC’s developmental impact.

FIG is seeking to recruit a Business Intern as Short-Term Temporary (STT) staff for a period of 9 to 10 months to provide support to the investment team for the development, execution and monitoring of investments for its business in West and Central Africa. This position provides a unique opportunity to gain exposure to the financial sector in the region and develop skills in financial analysis, modeling, credit and risk evaluation in a fast-paced and international environment.

The Position is based in Dakar, Senegal.

Duties and Accountabilities:

The responsibilities of the BI include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct market research and sector benchmarking
  • Assist in data collection/extraction for internal reporting and analytics
  • Write KYC (Know-Your-Client) reports for prospective clients (Integrity Due Diligence);
  • Prepare project-related documents and PowerPoint presentations for internal and external audiences;
  • Participate in broader portfolio management activities including: (i) preparation of portfolio reports:  (ii) sector studies; (iii) trend analysis; (iv) case studies and lessons learned etc.
  • Work closely with new Business Manager to identify business opportunities with prospective or existing clients to have a proactive business development approach;
  • Prepare client dashboards and pitchbooks to support business development efforts

Selection Criteria:

  • Undergraduate student from local university in his/her final year of bachelor’s degree in economics, business administration, accounting, engineering, finance, or other related areas
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of Portuguese and French is a plus
  • Previous internship and/or international experience is a plus
  • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Strong financial, analytical and modeling skills;
  • Highly-motivated and driven individual with strong willingness to learn and ability to multi-task;
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues from various cultural backgrounds;
  • Interest in the World Bank Group and IFC’s mission, strategy and values.
